I spotted this washed up, curled seaweed as I was making my way back from the ends of my favorite beach on the central California coast. I started working with it before the sun started to clear the cliffs behind me, but it was the images I made as parts of the sun started to clear that ridge that I liked best. I call this image ‘signature’ as the shapes and forms remind me of a hand drawn signature that someone might use to sign their name. I initially liked the color version with the contrast of the blues in the shade against the reds and oranges of seaweed, but then I also like the dramatic contrast of a black & white. Which do you prefer the color or the black & white?

Before we get into the technicalities of making a signature, the psychological aspect that lies behind this needs to be understood. Your signature is much more than just scrawling something on paper — it says something about your personality, confidence, and even your mood as you sign. Psychologists say that a person’s handwritten signature is one way of self-expression and might tell a lot about their subconscious mind.
